However, I noticed the community hasn't really picked up on it, and decided that I would have to be the one to do the heavy lifting. I am aware that there were some Tyranid modules that were on the steam workshop, but were only pulled because (rumor) GW cracked down on it.

I need to know if that really is the case. More importantly, I'm reaching out the the moddeling community for this. I've been reading up and studying on how to actually view WH40k Dawn of War Models, even so much as viewing them personally, but from that point in, I'm confused on what to do. I'm using 3ds Max, and using Brother Santos' Max script, coupled alongside Relic's Package unpacker to decompile the models. What do I do from there? I mean, obviously the goal is to convert these models into something that TTS can import, but how do I do that?

How do I get the textures for said models? Any sort of help is greatly appreciated, and I'm hoping for some sort of collaboration, but obviously I'd need to actually pick up these things. The endgame goal is to be able to provide enough models for players to actually play Warhammer40k. Thanks for reading community, and here's hope to be able to play WH40k. You could try.OBJ file type. In the top left corner of 3DS Max is a green box with the logo, you'll find import options there. I did the Dawn of War, Brother Santos, and 3DS Max combo thing to get files for 3D printing.

OBJ worked but I don't know what will happen to the textures. It is a long process.

First read and follow the Santos install guide to a tee and insall the 3ds scripts. Second be able to open Santos with no problems and view models in it. Most models are in the troop wargear area, stuff like armour and heads. Third in 3ds look for a little hammer (utilities), then MAXscript, then a drop down window that will have Santos if everything works.

Sekai no owari starlight parade rarest. There were some youtube videos that helped me figure it out. I hope the will be more wargaming support on TTS.

I haven't been able to play for a long time due to people moving too far away and TTS is the perfect soulution. Hello, so sorry for taking so long to thank you. I've been really diving into this. I just want to say, thanks to your help, I've gotten slightly further in my endeavor.

I found the Texture files. I know I'm severely behind, and alot of people may just be laughing at how 'Noob' I am, but I am slowly starting to piece things together, and thanks for your assistance on that. I now know how to EXPORT models into OBJ Files. I think I may have been able to do so with textures still intact. Edit: BREAKTHROUGH Using the OBJ Files, you can import them directly into TTS by uploading the Raw OBJ file data into Pastebin. The emperor approves! Now, to figure out how to convert those textures into JPG or PNGs.

Are you by any chance familiar at all with GWS? It just seems like you take them lightly, as though they're a normal company, but they're not. They have taken down entire sites for finding their models uploaded. TTS may not be directly attacked (which they will most likely receive a threat) but there will certainly be a ripple from it. A lot of these games uploaded now are small time & less threatening, but GWS. It's best to never give them reason to venture into your territory. Especially when you're illegally ripping models out of their games for another game.

Dark Vengeance is just reference sheets and templates, so it's less likely to be a target as well, and not really on their 'we give a fuck' radar. I've been playing 40k for a long time and I'm well aware how Gamesworkshop is as a company. OK GWS as a company is a whole other discussion for a different subreddit. The workshop Dark Vengeance uses their artwork, pictures, and rules. They have taken things down on other sites in the past for less, and it's still there.

There was the whole debacle with two 3D printed models on Thingiverse being taken down. Now they are replaced with whole armies of straight ripoffs on that site, and others. They have been on for over a year and more are being added. Nobody is making money off their products with these files online, so i guess GWS are picking their legal battles now, they don't have the money they used to. If OP uses DOW2 models, yeah I would think they are going to be taken down, the question is when. Does he want to put in a lot of work for something that could be taken down the next day? Or they could stay there for years, who knows.

Also there are not small time games being uploaded to the workshop. We have things like Hasbro, Catan, Fantasy Flight Games. X-wing mini is on there and that's Fantasy Flight, Disney property. The worry is everybody is poking the bear. All I advocate is use as much discretion as possible. He's new to modding and is jumping in with false ideas and for what seems to be his own selfishness.

I would like to see TTS around as long as possible. I don't approve of the 'just hammer the nail since we're going down eventually anyways' idea. If GW spots that we have models and can potentially play most of 40K without the need of their models and supplies, they'll completely attack because it's an easy target. He just needs to keep anything he does on the down low, avoid distribution and drawing attention. Delete this thread for added security. You've given into the GW fear mongering long ago. The mods should delete threads based on the rules of the sub not because you fear some other company.

The developers of TTS knew what they were getting into when they made a make your own boardgame and let people create whatever they want tool. Did they really think things like monopoly or magic the gathering wasn't going to show up? The issue of people ripping off others stuff is only going to get bigger as TTS grows.

The fact is if OP doesn't do it, it's only a matter of time before somebody else does. There is nothing we can do about it. There are literally hundreds of games out there, with equally powerful legal teams (Eg Hasbro, Wizkids, Blizzard, LucasArts). If you think that I will single handedly undo by introducing a concept that dozens of other people have had, you are completely ignorant. I'm pretty sure TTS would have already been taken down, or will be taken down in the future without my help. I'm pretty sure everyone would agree with me on this.

Selfish reasons? Mate, you really do need to look into things more. I specifically stated that I would want EVERYONE to be able to have the ability to download models, and do anything they want with it. I'm really starting to get annoyed by your nay preeching.

Coming in here to my help request thread, and shoving your morals and insults down my throat. I really don't appreciate that.

There are regulations and laws in place. Otherwise, I guess GW is going to go take down every single 3dprinter company in one fell swoop right? Have you even heard of Vassal? Do you know that there are entire mods for dawn of war that simulate the codex in entirety? No, because you wanted to come in here, point fingers and call me stupid.

This is going to happen, no matter what you have to say. If it isn't by my hand, it'll be by another's. Hundreds of people want to accomplish what I want to accomplish. I will do everything in my power to tackle this in a way that will not endanger anyone.

Now you need to stop. You're derailing my thread, and you are offending me. Why is it illegal? Show me the line that shows me I cannot use resources from a game I LEGALLY purchased, with another game that I LEGALLY payed for.

I fail to see anything even remotely illegal. Infact, you know what I just recently found out? There there are readily available 'Mod Tools' released by the developer (Relic) to do with what I wish with my game.

I think that you're over dramatizing what GW is capable of doing. They're not going to break into our houses and kneecap us. And I doubt they have the legal means for sueing anyone. The very worse thing that I can forsee being an issue, is sharing models in exchange for money. That's the only way that can bring down the wrath of GW's legal team.

Otherwise, I think you need to chill a bit with the huge claims. We all know GW are scumbags, but they are not above our legal rights as consumers. The very worst thing that's going to happen is that they take my Mod out of Steamworks. That's the real challenge, making the mod available to everyone.

War

The 3D models created for Dawn of War seemed ideal for use in Roll20. Recently, I found a VTT program where they were used, took some pictures, and made tokens. I was specifically interested in finding tanks, as they are iconic to 40k; and are really hard to find in the specific top down orientation. Seriously, I really need Chimeras and other Imperial tanks. Observations: Can we use these models?

Short answer. The resolution isn't great. Dawn of War models were made to be viewed from a fair distance away. Ergo, when you zoom in they look kind of block-ey and low res. I don't know if I would source Imperial Guard or Eldar 3D models, but the marines look alright. Will I be switching?

The resolution isn't good enough for me and the tanks really look a lot worse than what I have, which is a combination of model pictures and stuff from Forge World books. I also don't use a lot of space marines, which seem to be the easiest to find and copy. I think I'll be sticking to what I know and love. I've already harvested Armageddon too. I love the way Slitherine Ltd. Just left everything open for modders. Their prices are insane, but their love for the modding community is real.

Their stuff just doesn't have much use for me in a traditional RPG. I got some nice face shots of Steel Legion though, which will eventually end up in some games. It's just too bad that the big OW game we played on Armageddon was winding down before that game came out. I'm actually not sure if the models I've got are DoW2 or DoW1. I am pretty sure they are DoW2. I just didn't make the discrimination in the above post. I know they came from a DoW game.

I'd really like to get my hands on the space marine models out of the Space Hulk games, as their resolution was quite high. That was incidentally one of the reasons why that game was so slow. I can see if you use SNES stuff to make your maps how that kind of resolution might work well with Vassal stuff. My goal is always for the map to look sort of like a sci-fi reality. Sharp lines and metal floors are important to me. I always worry players will lose focus on the world, if the maps aren't indicative of the tone I'm going for.
