Programs for Undergraduate Students SUNY Downstate Medical Center, one of the largest medical centers in New York State, is committed to recruiting and educating talented, disadvantaged students. The College of Medicine's Office of Diversity Education & Research offers a unique opportunity for students to explore the sciences and become acquainted with healthcare professions. Through these programs, our mission is to encourage students to consider a rewarding career in the medicine or research. Exploring Health Careers (EHC) Program Applications due April 2, 2018 The Exploring Health Careers (EHC) Program is an initiative designed to expose SUNY undergraduate students who are in the Educational Opportunity Program ( EOP) to various health professions. Over the course of one 6-week summer session, students will be introduced to related course work for targeted health professions. Students will also participate in workshops, presentations and hands-on learning in clinics at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and affiliated sites.
The program is open to all qualified SUNY EOP students, but preference is given to rising sophomores and juniors. Undergraduate Summer Research Program Applications due March 1, 2018 The Undergraduate Summer Research Program is designed for undergraduate students who have historically been underrepresented in biomedical and health professions. Students will conduct research under the direction of a faculty member. Assignments will be made based upon availability of research opportunities and according to the mutual interests of the faculty sponsors and student participants. Oral presentations are made at the conclusion of the summer. The program is open to all qualified sophomores and juniors, but it is preferred that students show strong academic promise and come from a background that has in the past denied them opportunities in field of biomedical research.
